Do you 還是 Are you?to do 還是 doing?
- Do you vs. Are you:問句開頭要用 do 還是 be 動詞。
- to do vs. doing:動詞後面要接不定詞(to + 原形動詞)還是動名詞(V-ing)。
Part 1:Do you 還是 Are you?
|---|---|---|---|
| 一般動詞(know, need, agree, use…) | Do you | 原形動詞 | You know him. → Do you know him? |
| be 動詞(am / is / are) | Are you | 形容詞、名詞、地點 | You are ready. → Are you ready? |
| be + V-ing(進行式) | Are you | V-ing | You are working. → Are you working? |
| be + 過去分詞(被動、狀態) | Are you | 過去分詞 | You are interested. → Are you interested? |
Are you + 形容詞:問狀態
Do you know the new deployment pipeline?
受詞是一整個名詞子句 who is responsible for renewing…,子句裡又有自己的 be 動詞 is——
同一個動詞,Are you 和 Do you 意思不同
結構分析: Are you working on…?
Do you work on database migrations?,意思變成「你(平常)負責資料庫遷移這類工作嗎」,問的是習慣或職責。
|---|---|
| Do you work remotely? | |
| Are you working remotely this week? | |
| Do you use Terraform? |
| Are you using the latest version of Terraform?
|---|---|---|
| Do you agree with this approach? | agree
| Are you ready for the demo? | ready
| Do you know where the logs are?
| Are you interested in this role? | interested
| Are you going to the meetup tonight? | going 是 V-ing,要配 be |
換主詞時規則一樣:he / she / it 用 Does 或 Is;過去式用 Did 或 Was / Were。 例如 Does the script support Windows? 和 Is the script compatible with Windows?
Part 2:to do 還是 doing?
- to do 帶有「還沒發生、未來、目標」的感覺 → want, plan, decide, hope
1. 接 to do 的動詞
want, need, plan, decide, hope, expect, agree, refuse, promise, manage, afford, tend, fail
結構分析: decide 後面固定接 to do。
enjoy, finish, avoid, consider, suggest, recommend, mind, keep, postpone, practice, admit, deny, miss
I suggest to add more logs
(或 I suggest that we add more logs 的子句寫法)。
介系詞(in, on, about, for, of, without, before, after…)
寫成 look forward to work 是錯的。
I look forward to the meeting 說得通,就代表這個 to 是介系詞。
同樣是介系詞 to 的常見片語:be used to doing(習慣於)、object to doing(反對)、when it comes to doing(說到)。
4. to do 表示「目的」
放在句子後面、表示「為了…」,用 to do(等於 in order to):
表示目的時不能用 doing:We added a cache layer reducing the response time 意思會跑掉。
| 動詞 | + to do | + doing |
|---|---|---|
| stop | 停下來(去做另一件事) He stopped to check the dashboard. | 停止(原本在做的事) He stopped checking his email after work. |
| remember | 記得(要去做) Remember to rotate the keys before Friday. | 記得(做過) I remember rotating the keys last month. |
| forget | 忘了(要去做) I forgot to update the changelog. | 忘了(做過) I'll never forget debugging that race condition. |
| try | 努力嘗試(不一定成功) We tried to reproduce the issue, but we couldn't. | 試試看(某個方法) Try clearing the cache and restarting the service.
start, begin, continue, like, love, prefer, hate:
- The team started to use / using feature flags last quarter.
- I prefer to write / writing the tests before the implementation.
決定 Do 或 Are。
